Howard Chandler Christy (1873 - 1952) was an American artist who worked for many magazines but he is also well know for his contributions to the war efforts through his poster art. United States First World War poster promoting the sale of war bonds as part of the Fourth Liberty Loan campaign. One of the most successful in terms of monies raised the campaign ran from 28 September to 19 October 1918. It features a depiction of Columbia a feminine personification for the United States. Positioned in the upper right she is wearing classical dress with a wreath in her hair and set against a billowing 'stars and stripes'. With outstretched arms she is gesturing toward a Naval gun crew manning their gun post at sea in the lower right and the poster message top centre imploring viewers to invest to 'Clear the Way!!' for the military to do their job. There is a border around the image. The image size is correct. Many sizes available.
