The discovery by Volta in 1800 of the current of low tension electricity resulting from the chemical action, and the introduction of the electromagnet in 1824, le to the invention of the receiving instrument. The frirst needle telegraph was made between 1825-32 and in 1838 a line of galvanised iron wire, six miles in length, was laid and proved quite satisfactory. The five needle instrument here was invented by Mr. Cooke and Mr. Wheatstone in 1837. - There is a border around the image. Image size is correct. Many sizes available.
