Lighter Than Air - The air ship USS Akron traverses the ocean high above passenger and cruise ships below. Taken from a magazine cover from August 1931. USS Akron (ZRS-4) was a helium-filled rigid airship of the U.S. Navy which operated between September 1931 and April 1933. She was the world's first purpose-built flying aircraft carrier, carrying F9C Sparrowhawk fighter planes which could be launched and recovered while she was in flight. William John Heaslip (1898-1970) was active/lived in New York, New Jersey / Canada. William Heaslip is known for aeronautic subjects, painting, illustration, lithography.
